The BF and I decided weeks ago that we needed to have a day where we go and eat oysters on the half and so today I decided we would go to Camarillo to do just that. But where to go?! No worries, YELP to the rescue.
I saw this place on Yelp and with 240 reviews and 4 1/2 stars figured we would go out here and give it a try. I am so glad we did.
First of all, SUNDAY is HAPPY HOUR ALL DAY UNTIL 6:00 PM! But only at the bar and in the bar area. Table service is regular menu only. While the regular menu looks amazing, we were there for oysters and the happy hour option fit the bill ... meaning we could pick and choose the oysters we wanted to try. They had 5 different oysters we could try as well as fried and grilled. So we asked the guy behind the bar shucking to set us up with a dozen in all the varieties they had.
The oysters were fresh and really really great. Each one had a different flavor to it and really wish that I had abstained from using the (very fresh and hot) horseradish ... either way they were really good.
We also ordered the Ahi Ceviche Martini which was served inn a bowl with warm tortilla chips. It was good but likely we won't order again since it seems like there are other appetizer options we would rather try. But it was very good and the chips were amazing.
As recommended, we tried the grilled oysters. They were TO DIE FOR and as a hint, save your bread to dip into the garlic butter sauce that they cook the oysters with. It is really good in bread (so my BF said as I had already eaten too much bread) ... as a side note, the sourdough rolls they give you are outstanding.
Do no pass up the oyster shooter they make especially if you like spicy food. It is very flavorful with just the right amount of spice. They make it fresh and if you like super spicy, ask them to give you a heads up when the pitcher is almost done as the flavors marry well and you get an extra bang of spice.
Service was excellent and the employees at this joint were genuinely happy to be there. Everyone was so nice and the bonus of the bar is the "shuckers" are great to talk to. Very passionate about their work and that translated into presentation and quality of food.
We will be going back and they are opening up a few more restaurants so check in your area, go on a Sunday ... sit at the bar and eat oysters to your hearts content.
EDIT: NOTE This place is located in Camarillo Town Center Shopping Center off Las Posas and the 101 fwy.
In my view, Ventura has long needed a great seafood restaurant that also serves as a great date night place. This new restaurant definitely fills that need.
So far we've visited twice for drinks and appetizers during happy hour (4-6 pm). We enjoyed Fanny Bay oysters, crab cakes, calamari, and cevichi. All were delicious and high quality. Another positive is that they offer drink specials on powerful cocktails, as well as generous wine pours.
Useful hint: a 4 oz. vodka martini needs something more substantial than a dozen fresh oysters to soak up the alcohol.
If you're driving your vehicle, there is plenty of available parking, including a dedicated section on the 2nd level of the parking structure behind the restaurant. Otherwise, enjoy the walk home or take one of the readily available taxis.
It's great to Finally have a Lure Fish House in Ventura. Arrived 530 for an early dinner...love the decor...dining area was fairly quiet. By 630 departure, noise level was up considerably but we were still able to carry on a conversation. Camarillo LFH always seemed too noisy.
Wine list had a great variety and highlighted local wines within 100 miles. I liked this and have visited several of these excellent wineries. Selected a Nadia Sauvignon Blanc from SB Highlands area. Very good body & flavor, not tart but smooth. we'll have to put Nadia on my "must visit list".
Lea our server was delightful, helpful and attentive. This is only the second week they are open and both the service and food quality were top notch.
Took Lea's recommendation for the two specials. I chose the charbroiled Halibut and my wife the Char. Both were moist, flaky and delicious. The Char we believe had a hint of Dijon mustard that was VERY tasty. Entrees come with two choices for sides. We both chose a gluton free quinoa salad that had onions, tomatoes, olives, yellow peppers and cucumbers with a slightly sweet vinaigrette. Mine had the standard feta cheese mixed in...wife asked for goat cheese which they easily accommodated. We really liked these salads. Asparagus and Brussels sprouts were fresh, crisp and tasty. Sprouts had a great garlic and butter flavor.
We passed on desserts but they seemed to have a good selection. We will definitely be back...want to try their oysters:-)
Reserved parking spaces on second level of parking structure right behind the LFH.
WOW! We visited Lure for the first day they were open for lunch and they blew us away. Awesome martinis and oysters and the sourdough rolls were to die for. Service was also 5 star. We enjoyed it so much we went back and ordered take out for dinner. Oysters, calamari and cerviche were fantastic. I wish we lived closer so we could go more often. I will definitely visit again next time we are in town.
Oh my goodness, we loved Lure Fish House in Ventura. We had a lunch of blackened halibut, chopped salads, clam chowder & sourdough rolls. They were all excellent. The halibut was tender, juicy & full of spicy flavors. The clam chowder was probably the best I've had. And I love that the lunch portions were ample as well as reasonable. Our waiter was professional and attentive, explaining how the restaurant uses local fish & vegies. This is now my favorite local fish restaurant.
Oh Yum! What another great lunch at Lure. I ordered the Jalapeno Albacore Melt and oh was it so good. My husband ordered the Grilled Swordfish Sandwich and my son ordered the Ahi Sandwich with Brussel Sprouts (he's a "health nut " haa). All of our food was very fresh tasting and served at the perfect temp. Corey was our server and he was very attentive. He was on the ball when it came to drink refills and cleaning our plates from the table. I would recommend Lure to anyone that loves Fresh Food and appreciates great customer service.
Lure Fish House Rocks!
We have been there several times and usually have the fish & chips. Tonite they had Mahi Mahi as the special and I gave it a shot. AWESOME. The sweet potato fries are great and I had a bowl of clam chowder as my 2nd side. It was great...really different, but so damn good that I was bummed when I got to the bottom of the bowl.
Our server ERIC was on it! He was at the table enough to ensure we had everything we needed, but not enough to bug us.
If you don't enjoy your trip to Lure Fish House, you must not like great fish!
We had an unbelievable meal!!!! We had a great server DAN....so good! I had the blue point oysters....PHENOMENAL the seared ahi ....to die for....lobster....delish .....its was a great meal with great friends.....superb service.....our first time and most definitely not our last......
I ate here two nights in a row. Service was wonderful. The first night they gave me a free cup of chowder because my red chowder was late. The second night a free soup because they thought it took too long to get my initial order. The yellowtail and snapper were awesome. The brussel sprout side was superb. Excellent key lime pie.
Gina & I had a great meal - Ceviche, spicy tequila lime shrimp, chopped salad w/ salmon - Stella & margarita to complement - Cheesecake was grand! Well done!
My partner and I had dinner at Lure last Friday. I had read the reviews on Yelp and was hoping to find this new restaurant to be as good as described - it was! Our server Robert was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. He was happy to bring us a taste of the Veracruz red clam chowder (which as great and we will order another time), AND the featured wine of the evening, the Bianchi Chardonnay. The wine was reasonably priced ($20), and we split a bottle and they corked and bagged it so that we could take home what we didn't finish.
We enjoyed the in-house made guacamole, but know that it comes with a jalapeno-laced pico de gallo on top (we asked for it on the side). We shared the seared ahi with steamed spinach and parmesan potato cake and wasabi aioli. We loved every morsel. Based on the reviews we had read we decided we couldn't pass up the cheesecake with chambord sauce, but we opted to take it home and share it an hour later. Again, this was a real winner.
We came at 5:30 and got right in but the restaurant was packed by 6:00. I am thrilled to see that this place is becoming the place to go for excellent fresh fish in Ventura County.
It is definitely going to become one of our favorites!
After driving past Lure Fish House for some now, we decided to venture in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. As it was early on the weekend, it was not very busy or loud (a plus). The decor is very nice inside Lure-- beach themed (obviously). We enjoyed lunch with a window booth and fabulous service from Jennifer our waitress. The menu has a number of choices for those that enjoy all varieties of fish and those have a limited palate for fish. Our waitress was very helpful in answering all of our questions about the menu.
We both ordered from the "Charbroiler" section of the menu, which includes the fresh fish of your choice and one or two sides. We ordered the sea bass with side salad and sweet potato fries and salmon with side salad and potato cake. Both the sea bass and salmon were EXCELLENT! They were cooked perfectly with just enough seasoning blend. Often restaurants go crazy with the salty seasoning, which drives me nuts. Also, the fish had a nice crispy grilled flavor. The side salads were fresh and larger than expected. The real treat was the homemade balsamic vinaigrette! Yum! The potato cake was tasty, it had a little kick to it. While the sweet potato fries were some of the best I've ever had; crispy and not overly salted. My only complain was the price for our drinks. We ordered a soda and an iced tea -- each one cost $3! That seems a bit high from what most restaurants charge, but I guess they have to make extra money somewhere. Overall, not a huge deal, just an annoyance.
We will definitely be returning to Lure Fish House to try out some other menu items. If your looking for a nice place to enjoy fresh fish and great service -- try out Lure Fish House.
Went back to Lure this weekend again, this time in a large group celebrating a birthday. All I have to say is WOW. It was even better than the first time. The service was impeccable. Our waiter was super friendly and the general manager even stopped by our table to make sure we were all happy with our meals. Really appreciated the level of quality service. I don't get it anywhere in L.A.
As for the food, I have to first comment on the Caeser salad. It's a TRUE Caeser salad served chilled with a tangy homemade dressing, like the kind you get in Europe. Delicious.
For appetizers, we had tons of steamed clams, mussels, and oysters brought to the table. All were fresh and delicious. Loved the mussel broth and was impressed with the kumamoto oysters our server recommended.
I was in the mood for lobster so I split the 3lb whole lobster and lobster ravioli with my girlfriend. The lobster was PERFECTLY cooked (I'm really picky about this). The raviolis were so addicting. Sauce was flavorful but not too rich. I was bummed I only had 2 because my GF wolfed them down before I could get anymore.
Both my Dad and brother ordered the cioppino; said it was the best they've ever had. I tried it and will definitely be ordering it next time.
I'm a dessert-loving kinda guy and I love their dessert menu. Simple classics that are all made in-house and done very well. Flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and the key-lime pie were my favorites.
Apart from their consistently delicious food and great service, I will be back for the atmosphere alone. Sat outside on the patio and it has nice lights, trees, and good vibes. Even the restrooms are extremely nice and clean. Love this place and will be back again and again.
Another wonderful lunch time for us today. We really appreciate the friendly atmosphere of your restaurant. My husband love your charbroiled oysters. I prefer the raw. The Ahi Ceviche Martini is so good. The Mixed Berry Shortcake is so heavenly. We are looking forward for ABALONE in your menu.
Amazing food! My husband and I came to celebrate our 5 year anniversary, and this was the perfect way to do it! Great food, excellent service, the staff is friendly and very informative, and I love the fact that they support the local community! I highly recommend it! The oyster bar its amazing!
